At Parfait Parquet, we specialise in the careful restoration of old French staircases—each one unique, often beautifully designed, but rarely built to anything resembling modern standards. Many of these stairs were crafted to fit the character and constraints of the homes they belong to. That means inconsistent riser heights, non-regulation spindles, worn treads, and, quite often, structural quirks that make modern replacements a poor fit—or worse, a tragic downgrade.

Our goal is to bring these original staircases back to life. Whether affected by age, damage, or woodworm, most old staircases can be repaired and restored using a combination of traditional techniques and professional-grade products. From replacing treads and risers to rebuilding missing or broken spindles and handrails, we carry out comprehensive repairs that maintain the soul of your staircase while improving its safety and usability.

Modern Finishes, Timeless Results

We primarily use wax finishes for handles and spindles and high-quality, water-based anti-slip finishes that offer long-term durability and are well suited to high-traffic areas like staircases. These finishes also help preserve the natural tones of traditional French hardwoods such as oak, elm, and cherry—avoiding the overly darkened appearance that oil-based products can cause, particularly in older or less naturally lit spaces.

Every staircase restoration is bespoke. A standard 17–19 tread staircase typically takes 4 to 5 days to complete, including full stripping and refinishing. For larger or more intricate staircases, we may work with members of our team to ensure the highest level of craftsmanship and attention to detail throughout the process.

  • Straight run staircase -Treads & risers only 17 to 19 treads from €2200 TTC

  • Quarter Turn staircase treads & risers from €2800 TTC depending on style and width of treads.

  • Handrails from €75 l-m depending on style of handrail

  • Full staircase - Treads & risers, handrail & Spindles & Stringer - Onsite assessment required

We price each project staircase so each project individually as there are so many variations in style and size to consider.

If you don’t want to replace your existing staircase, then we can carry out a full renovation of the existing one. Most clients prefer this option because it gives the stairs a great new look without any costly structural changes.

However, we believe the highest priority is always to ensure that your staircase is safe. So when we do our assessment if there is irreparable damage, or it is structurally unsafe, we will tell you. If it can be renovated, we will explain exactly what we will do and what products we will use. In addition, we provide expert advice, including professional recommendations on the best products that will keep your stairs looking beautiful for longer.
