Walnut Parquet Floors
Walnut Parquet is extremely durable wood and makes excellent wood flooring. It can be a mid brown colour to a very dark brown colour this just depends on the tree which will define the outcome of the floors colour.
It is also less susceptible to woodworm so makes it a very durable Parquet. Some examples of our restoration projects in France are below.
Generally, we do not finish Walnut with Oil unless a client requests this as a finish as depending on the parquet floor natural colour when sanded Oil finishes can make the walnut wood go extremely dark in colour which in French homes with small windows can make the rooms look smaller.
Walnut wood parquet is rare and makes a beautiful parquet for a room.
The walnut parquet floor in question is a true masterpiece, a shining example of how unique and remarkable ancient flooring can be in France. This particular gem resides in a château nestled in the picturesque Dordogne region. It stands out not only for its craftsmanship but for the profound connection it evokes—a connection between the wood itself and the artisan who first brought it to life.
This project holds a special place in my heart, and I consider it my most treasured restoration among the many parquet floors I’ve worked on throughout France—a statement I do not make lightly. What makes this floor so extraordinary is the way the original craftsman allowed the wood to speak. That, to me, is the very essence of any great project involving timber: letting the material tell its story.
Every plank in this floor was hand-selected with precision, and the design was laid out to highlight the natural beauty and narrative of the wood. The floor seamlessly flows beyond the main room, extending into the hallway and even into the guest suite’s bathroom. Each space feels connected, as if the floor itself is weaving a continuous tale of elegance and artistry.
While France is home to countless stunning and unique floors, this walnut parquet is my personal favourite. Its beauty is timeless, its story unparalleled, and the experience of restoring it remains one of the most fulfilling chapters of my career.
